With your support, we hope to spread this happiness one child at a time to Venu's blind classmates. Working with a local charity, we strive to enable continuous improvements to the technology and make this inexpensive device available to every blind child. With 37 million across the globe suffering from blindness, a quarter of them in India, and most poor, we know there's much to accomplish as these children otherwise face a lifetime of difficulty and deprivation.

 

The technology is wearable, attaches to a regular pair of glasses, and relies on non-visual cues. It uses multiple sensors, machine vision, and machine learning to enable object, face, and even expression detection. It has various modes that dramatically improve a child's abilities and, ultimately, independence. Independence through reading any book or newspaper unassisted (it is programmed to recognize and read English and multiple local languages, without the need for Braille translation) and walking unassisted (it uses GPS to give directions to a destination and read road signs) can completely transform these children's lives and open up many more possibilities for their future.

 

We owe this life-changing technology to every blind child, everywhere. The cost of each device is USD 330.
